“Networks of Practice” is the second exhibition of the “Common Grounds” project, a collaborative initiative developed by CICA – Czong Institute for Contemporary Art, Gimpo, South Korea, and CATEDRA – Centre for Research in Photography and Media Art at the “George Enescu” National University of the Arts, Iași. It follows the first exhibition of the project, presented at CICA Museum, Gimpo, between 27 May and 21 June 2026.
Bringing together eleven artists from Romania and South Korea, the project maps affinities between distinct artistic positions through shared operations, processes, and forms of inquiry. Its point of departure is the relation between subject, medium, and practice: the ways in which agency circulates between human gesture, technological systems, ecological environments, and surfaces of representation.
Across drawing, installation, video art, interactive systems, speculative ecologies, algorithmic mediation, and performative delegation, the works investigate processes of accumulation, modelling, detection, conversion, hybridisation, and representation. At Aparte Gallery, these works enter a new spatial configuration, opening further connections between artistic practices shaped in different cultural and institutional contexts.
“Common Grounds. Networks of Practice” continues the wider “Commons” series, initiated in 2022 by Lavinia German and Cătălin Soreanu as a long-term platform for artistic dialogue across geographical and cultural contexts. The project also includes the homonymous publication issued by CICA Press in May 2026 and edited by Lavinia German, Leejin Kim, and Cătălin Soreanu.
